The British postal service hands out vast amounts of rubberbands every day. We almost always receive our mail wrapped in at least one rubberband and used to throw most of them away until we discovered rubberband balls. Made – you guessed it – from 100% rubberbands. They grow as you add new rubberbands... Pictures of our first three rubberband balls were used for these badges. The youngest one (top) is button badge sized (1"/25mm) and about one month old while the biggest ball (bottom) is originally tennisball-sized and was started about two months before we took these pictures.
FL@33 is a multi-disciplinary design studio for visual communication
based in London. Its founders, Agathe Jacquillat (French from Paris; ESAG Penninghen) and Tomi Vollauschek (Austrian, but from Frankfurt;
FH Darmstadt) met on the Royal College of Art's (RCA) postgraduate Communication
Art and Design course in 1999 and set up their studio after
graduating in July 2001.
The studio’s clients include MTV Networks, BBC, Royal Festival Hall, Laurence King Publishing, Creative Review, Computer Arts, Groupe Galeries Lafayette, Matelsom, Arts Affaires and Friends of the Earth.
The two launched Stereohype.com – Graphic Art & Fashion Boutique – in 2004: an international platform for both emerging and established talents. The duo have also released self-initiated projects such as the award-winning Trans-form magazine and online sound collection project bzzzpeek.com.
FL@33 interviews, features and company profiles have been published online, in numerous magazines, newspapers and books around the world. Interviews featured on BBC Radio and NPR, America’s National Public Radio.
A FL@33 monograph was published
in 2005 as part of the bi-lingual (English and French) and highly collectable 'design & designer' book
series by French Pyramyd Editions.
The duo released two books so far that were conceived, written, edited and designed by FL@33 and both books were published worldwide by Laurence King, London. The first book is Postcard
from 2008 and was translated into French, German and Spanish. Their latest book is Made & Sold: Toys, T-Shirts, Prints, Zines and Other Stuff, released in October 2009.
